Participants in the family Pet Expo of America has had the opportunity to participate in a Betta fish Toss and Aquarium, as well as Lottery purchase pet supplies at discount prices at pets in the classroom. All proceeds from these efforts go directly towards funding scholarships for classroom pets. These fundraisers were made possible through the donation of goods and resources from the following pet suppliers and organizations: CaribSea Inc., United Pet group Aqueon/Central swimming, Seachem Laboratories, Hikari sales USA Inc, Fluval/Rolf c. Hagen, U.S.A, Inc., Terrascapes, cobalt International, Segrest farms, sea dwelling creatures, Bio Bubble Pets LLC and IAMS. In addition, the Pet World Association, host of America's family Pet Expo, donato stand space for activities at their annual event that is known to provide educational fun for pet lovers throughout Southern California.
Pets in the Classroom program was established by the Pet Care Trust in 2009 to assist teachers in getting or keeping animals in the classroom. The donation of $ 13,500 will help pets in the classroom to achieve their ultimate goal of 5 million children in 100,000 classrooms for pets and the benefits they provide. Pets in the classroom program benefits students by teaching them pet care responsible for the long-term at an early age and providing psychological and evolutionary benefits associated with the human-animal bond. Studies have shown that caring for pets has a positive effect on children, improve school attendance and teaching children responsibility, as well as favouring the sustenance and building self-esteem.
